Dr. Nancy Golden

Dr. Golden has more than 44 years of experience as an educational leader in Oregon. Currently she is the first Professor of Practice at the College of Education at UO. In this role, she aligns her years of experience in the field with world class researchers to impact Oregon‘s graduation rate as the Director of the Oregon Research Schools Network (ORSN). She was Oregon’s Chief Education Officer until September 1, 2015. She began her career as a special education teacher in 1974. She formerly served as the superintendent for Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, Oregon from 2003-2013. In 2011, she served as Educational Policy Advisor to the Governor and was selected as Oregon’s Superintendent of the Year.

A former director for the University of Oregon’s Administrative Licensure Program, she is an expert in learning organizations, group process, facilitation skills, school supervision, and curriculum delivery and design. Nancy obtained her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon in 1987.

Nancy is highly regarded for promoting equity and the arts in schools. She was one of two winners of the 2012 Tom Ruhl Leadership for Equity Award by the Oregon Leadership Network; in 2009. She received the Springfield Alliance for Equality and Respect’s Human Rights Leadership Award. She is a strong advocate for the arts and won the Advocate of the Arts Award from the Eugene Symphony in 2014.

Sol Joye

Sol Joye (PhD in progress with 2021 completion) is the Associate Director of the Oregon Research Schools Network. He was an award-winning middle and high school teacher for over a decade before coming to the University of Oregon's College of Education. Prior to his work with ORSN, he worked for four years as the Digital Learning Integration Coordinator for the Office of Global and Online Education at UO, training and collaborating on educational projects across the globe. He has extensive experience in curriculum development, teacher training and preparation, including digital and hybrid educator professional development and delivery, as well as general web development and media design. His research focuses on the intersections of online learning, technology, and university-based research practice partnerships.
